Douglas Barnard; Cornell Graduate who started off working in e-commerce for Walmart. He was later let go in 2020 due to downsizing/restructuring-- this was all due to the pandemic and he decided to take the scary, yet life changing risk of making travel his new form of income.
The first time I came across Doug was in 2021 when I was debating where to go for my birthday. 2020 was a big hit for us all and forced us to remain in close contact at home with our families and face reality (which was a life changing thing) It catapulted people into their callings and forced people to look within and face themselves. It allowed me to re-evaluate my life and get closer to God. :) (Back to the story)-- I was watching a lot of videos about Israel because it's on my list of places to see and I came across Lost Leblanc's video of him in Egypt (Mount Sinai)-- other videos were popping up and I came across Doug Barnard's channel. At the time, he had a little over 1,000 subscribers and I dived into all his video's on Egypt--which were so good. Each video was genuine and I really enjoyed the fact that he just wings every day, not knowing who or what he will encounter (that really drew me to him). Me and mom loved watching him and just seeing the immense growth in his vlogs. Long story short, I found out that Egypt was open and I went May 2021 for my birthday which was one of the best birthday's ever!
I always DM'd Doug if I had any questions and he would be very responsive and kind. I never got the chance to meet him, but I know one day our paths will cross and that will be a wonderful moment.
Knowing that I was one of his very first followers on his channel and instagram is super cool. Doug now has 435,000 Youtube subscribers and over 66,000 Instagram followers. He maximized his channel by authentically being real, honest and true to himself and honoring the people he encountered and stories to be told. He has traveled to numerous amounts of countries from Azerbaijan to Mongolia and has been featured in multiple different articles, podcasts and interviews. He is an inspiration to us all and it just goes to show that it doesn't matter where you start; if you have a dream and passion, you can truly make it come to pass by your faith, trust in God, determination and hard work.
